Step One
Get a domain name. If you don’t have one yet you can get it from GoDaddy.com. They have the best prices. Don’t buy anything but the domain name from Godaddy. They try to get you to buy a bunch of extra services but you don’t need it. Just the domain name. When you get to the end of your order with Godaddy they’ll ask about name servers. Don’t worry about that yet. Just take the default name parking.
Step Two
Click on the banner below to follow my affiliate link to Hostgator. Click on the “Web Hosting” tab when you get to Hostgator. It doesn’t matter which plan you select but if you think you’re going to have more than one website in the near future, get the Baby plan. Hostgator always has a special going (most of the time) for 20% of your initial order so it’s a good time to pay for a couple years in advance if you want. Otherwise month to month is fine.
Hostgator has been around for years and I’ve been hosting with them almost from the beginning. They’re far and away the best web host around. They have excellent customer service with a real phone number and they answer their support email within an hour or two, at any time of the day or night.
Step Three
When you get your welcome email from Hostagtor, paste it into the form below. It may be the second email you get from them. It will be long and have all of your login information in it.
Don’t forget to pick an email name (somename@your-new-site.com) to use with your blog.
